| International students participating in Abroad at AU can take courses from the university's extensive course offerings in 53 subject areas for undergraduate students.
AU Courses
Abroad at AU students can take the equivalent of 12 credit hours per semester, thus qualifying you as a full-time student. In addition, students will also have the opportunity to participate in internships within agencies and organizations based in Washington, D.C.
Limitations to Courses
Abroad at AU students are not allowed to register for the following courses in the Kogod School of Business (no exceptions granted):
- Any 500 level accounting course
- MGMT 458: Business Policy and Strategy
- FIN 465: Derivative Securities
- MKTG 412 Advertising & Promotion Campaigns

Transferability of Credits
Transferability of credits for coursework will be determined by the students' home institutions. The course numbers on the student’s official American University transcript are specific to this program and differ from the course numbers found in the university’s catalog. Students will receive a transcript and the opportunity to receive a Certificate in the American Experience from AU for their work in the program. However, transferability of credits for course work will be determined by the students' home institutions.
